To encourage, educate and enhance the skills and technical knowledge of our local coffee growers, a training on post-harvest and processing was conducted at DISADECO-Diffun on November 4-6, 2021.The three-day activity was participated in by 22 coffee farmers.
Entitled “Coffee Post-Harvest Handling and Processing Phase II,” the training covered two major subjects. These are the (a) fundamentals of packaging, labelling and marketing of products and (b) proper coffee processing methods. The specific topics include sorting, grading, storing, hulling/milling, grinding and roasting of coffee beans.
Ms. Olive Grace V. Labasan and Mr. Silvester Miguel, both from DTI talked about the fundamentals of packaging, labelling and marketing of products. Ms. Juliet B. Morales, chairperson of Coffee Council of Region 2, on the other hand, discussed about the proper coffee processing methods.
The training is a project undertaking of DISADECO in partnership with its development partners: DA-ATI and DTI.
Phase I of the same training was conducted in July, 2021.
Meanwhile, a third phase is being conceptualized in order to fully equip the participants with the necessary expertise on all aspects of the coffee industry.
